RESTORATION OF AQUATIC ECOSYSTEMS IN PROTECTED AREAS IN THE ALPS AND PYRENEES

LIFE Multi Peat Monitoring and policy workshop

Last November 30, 2022 we participated in the LIFE Multi Peat Monitoring and policy workshop organized by the LIFE Multi Peat project team.

The aim of the workshop was twofold. In the first part, an open webinar took place to connect the LIFE Multi Peat project to different EU-funded restoration projects and to discuss successful ways of connecting policy and practice in peatland restoration. The second part served to progress the different policy actions of LIFE Multi Peat project in a closed on-site event.

Our team actively participated in the event through a video in which we gave our perspective on EU peatland policy and introduced the policy related work that our project is implementing.

Here you can see the presentation made by the researcher Eulàlia Pladevall from the University of Barcelona.

About Life Multi Peat Project

The LIFE Multi Peat project aims to restore degraded peatlands by rewetting five project sites across Belgium, Germany, Ireland, the Netherlands, and Poland. The close monitoring of greenhouse gas emissions on the restoration sites will help to understand how peatland restoration can contribute to climate change mitigation. In addition, the project aims to test and disseminate alternative wet land use options, i.e. paludiculture, as a sustainable alternative to drainage-based agriculture on peatlands.
