On January 27-28, 2025, a training course on electrofishing was held as part of the activities of the LIFE RESQUE ALPYR project, focused on the restoration of protected aquatic ecosystems in the Alps and the Pyrenees.
Electrofishing is a fundamental tool for the management of invasive species and the conservation of aquatic ecosystems, as it allows for the safe capture of fish without causing permanent harm. Recognizing its importance, the course combined theoretical and practical training to ensure its safe and efficient use.

Comprehensive Training in Electrofishing
During the first session, participants attended a theoretical module on safety, led by Dr. Luca Mazzeo, which covered key topics such as current regulations and legislation, as well as essential safety measures for electrofishing. Later, Dr. Salvatore De Bonis conducted a session on electrofishing techniques and equipment, explaining the principles of electrotechnics, the operation of the necessary tools, and the effects of electric current on fish.

The second day was dedicated to practical training in the Duglia River, where participants, equipped with appropriate gear and under the supervision of Dr. De Bonis, applied the knowledge gained in a controlled environment.
Advancing the Conservation of Aquatic Ecosystems
The training concluded with the issuance of certificates to participants, who are now qualified to apply this technique in monitoring, invasive species management, and aquatic habitat conservation projects.
The LIFE RESQUE ALPYR project continues its commitment to the restoration of river ecosystems and the training of professionals to work in protected areas, contributing to the balance of biodiversity in key areas of the Alps and the Pyrenees.
