This mire system is situated in the SCI Alt Pallars, located in the central-eastern Pyrenees between the Aran Valley and Andorra. Afforestation in mires is accelerating due to land abandonment, together with rising temperatures and longer summer dry spells. Trees in mires increase transpiration and cause water table drawdown, a feed-back process. In Pla Muntaner, almost all pines present there today are less than 60 years old. Clearcutting actions will be undertaken to enhance the conservation of values and maintain the rich biodiversity associated with this singular mire system.
