They are a system of lakes situated in SCI Aigüestortes in strict protection area of Aigüestortes and Estany de Sant Maurici National Park, which implies that fishing is not allowed in the area. Some of the lakes in the system were included as target lakes for fish removal in the former LIFE+ LIMNOPIRINEUS conservation project with successful results. However, brown trout (Salmo trutta) can still be found in other lakes in the valley and are being removed within the context of LIFE RESQUE ALPYR.
