Djouan area is located inside the SCI Gran Paradiso, a large protected area between the Piemonte and Valle d’Aosta regions. The area includes one lake, one pond, some small patches of peatbog, petrifying springs and alpine meadows. All these habitats are affected by excessive livestock grazing and trampling. To solve this conservation problem, we are conducting passive restoration with livestock management consisting of a combination of temporary and permanent exclusion zones and the construction of an alternative water point.
